Meet Our Doctors

Dr. Deborah J. Aten

Dr. Deborah Aten received her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from The Ohio State University in 1993. While at Ohio State, she was selected to serve as one of the Team Dentists for The Ohio State Athletics Department. She then continued her post graduate training at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC by earning certification in a general practice residency.

Following the completion of the residency training, Dr. Aten joined the faculty at Carolinas Medical Center in the Department of Oral Medicine and served as the GPR Assistant Program Director for many years. From there, Dr. Aten worked as an associate in a busy Charlotte dental practice. Leveraging her broad experience, Dr. Aten opened Aten Family and Cosmetic Dentistry in 2001 to provide Ballantyne area residents the expertise and care they sought close to home and office.

Dr. Aten continues to focus on post-graduate education by attending numerous continuing education courses focusing on comprehensive cosmetic, reconstructive, and preventive dentistry. Her professional memberships include: American Dental Association, North Carolina Dental Society, Charlotte Dental Society and the Outer Loop Education Study Club. She previously served as the President of the Second District Dental Society and on the North Carolina Dental Society Board of Trustees.

In her free time, Dr. Aten enjoys family, traveling, outdoor activities and cheering for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Dr. Anthony Garofalo

Dr. Anthony Garofalo received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from New York University College of Dentistry in 2005. From a young age, he was eager to follow in the footsteps of his father, brother, and uncle, who are all practicing dentists.

During his time at NYU he pursued and completed additional advanced courses on Dental Implants, Oral Medicine and Orofacial Pain Treatment. In his final year, Dr. Garofalo was chosen by his peers to serve as a member of the University’s Ethics Committee. After graduation, Dr. Garofalo went on to receive a Certificate of Achievement in Comprehensive Aesthetic Dentistry from New York University for his participation in a yearlong course of study.

Dr. Garofalo began his career by being invited to join a private practice in the prestigious community of East Hampton, New York. During this time, he was also asked to be a part-time associate professor at New York University. Dr. Garofalo brought a unique youthful perspective and enthusiasm to the position and was subsequently awarded a Certificate of Excellence in Clinical Teaching.

In 2010 Dr. Garofalo brought his knowledge and expertise to practice in the Charlotte area. His reputation spread and a partnership with Dr. Aten was unanimously formed creating Aten & Garofalo Dentistry.

When he’s not giving his patients 110%, Dr. Garofalo is active in numerous dental and charitable organizations throughout the Charlotte and Ballantyne community. Along with his wife, Liz, Dr. Garofalo shares a mutual love of cooking, traveling, photography and cheering on the Carolina Panthers!
